A special double-sided adhesive film is applied fully automatically to acrylic sheets which are manually fed into the laminating machine nose-to-tail and subsequently automatically separated by an integrated driven x-cutter.
Production Manager Rich Wheeler proudly states:
We came to Ashton Industrial for a semi-automatic solution to remove and collect a release liner interlayer while precisely applying double sided adhesive film to acrylic sheets. Our existing process took approximately 90 seconds per sheet to laminate. We had to clean each sheet by hand and although the old machine perforated the film, a manual cut was still required to separate the sheets effectively.
This meant there was a lot of time wasted with manual labour. Working with Steve Ashton and his design team we identified effective improvements and the new machine we purchased included a deionising air knife to clean the acrylic material plus an automatic through cut before falling into an existing stacking device. This has dramatically reduced our processing time making laminating sheets 4 times faster.
